Old Sag Represents At Nationals, Will Be Back

Philadelphia's Masters Squad Battles Nemesis Colorado To The Wire In The Quarters

OLD SAG knew it would be hard at the 2003 nationals as they hit the polo fields as reigning champs. There would no more surprising anybody like when they won it all in 2002. This fall everybody was gunning for them. Old Sag battled hard but lost 16-14 to nemesis Old And In the Way of Boulder, CO in the quarters.

"We played with a lot of heart. But, boy, they were better, and they took it to us," captain Steve Wherry told The Philadelphia Inquirer. And what about the future? "The guys were thinking, 'Hey, if we play next year and we win it all, two out of three isn't bad.'"

All The Way In 2002

OLD SAG shocked the frisbee nation in Sarasota in the 2002 by winning it all against Colorado's Old And In The Way. The focused and talented ultimate players who toiled for years on Edgely Field in Philadelphia went undefeated and brought back the title to Philadelphia. At the 2002 Nationals, it was great to see Philly legends like Big Rick, Steve Wherry, Jerry Garzone, Dave Dillon, and Nacho get was coming to them: a national title. Curtis Maier, Sam Sackett, Hector Hernandez, and Paul Minecci had the "younger legs" to push them over the top. As Steve said after beating Old In The Way, "it was a team effort."

More In 2004

Old Sag has a roster of 30 plus strong so they have the bodies to come back. They can rest their aching bodies this winter and get ready for another run at the title in 2004. Sarasota awaits the squad as they will once again represent Philly ultimate the best they can. Their three-year plan now enters its fifth year.
